I’m a chef by trade — or at least, that’s how the story started! 👩🏻‍🍳🐾

​

I trained hard at college and worked in kitchens up and down the country, doing what I thought was my dream job. I’ve always loved cooking — the creativity, the pace, the satisfaction — and at home, my husband Andy and I still battle over who gets to take charge of dinner (he’s as much of a foodie as I am!).

​

But here’s the thing… I’ve also always been an animal lover. Dogs, cats, even bearded dragons — you name it, I’ve probably loved one. And long, hot, exhausting hours in a busy kitchen don’t exactly mix well with wanting to spend time with animals or having much of a life outside work.

​

And then came The Mayonnaise Moment.
One scorching July afternoon, after endless dietary requests, a lovely but unsuspecting waitress asked if her table could have more mayo… and that was it. I was done. Completely melted — literally and emotionally.

​

My sister swooped in with the perfect suggestion:
“Come out with me. Get some fresh air. Walk some dogs. Clear your head.”
So I did — and I never looked back.

​

Now I spend my days in the fresh air, walking happy dogs, fussing cats, and caring for pets instead of sweating over a stove. It’s the perfect work–life balance, and genuinely the happiest I’ve ever been.

Animals bring a calmness and a warmth that nothing else compares to.
